Safe Home Extraction

This article is also available in PDF format (here)

As radical as ever, Karin Herzog takes a refreshing and some would say controversial view on this matter....because we know you WILL pick & squeeze, we would rather guide, support and educate you on HOW to self extract correctly, to minimise damage.

There are two kits available in this routine.
You can save money by purchasing the kit compared to purchasing the products individually.

Home Extraction Routine

  1. Clean hands thoroughly before you begin.
  2. Apply any of the Karin Herzog Cleansers to eye area, face and neck massaging for approximately 2 minutes then remove with a damp Face Silk or cloth.

  3. Take a small amount of Mild Scrub and mix in the palm of the hand with equal parts water. Work into the face using small circular movements (avoiding eye area). Pay particular attention to where there is most congestion. Remove all traces using a damp silk or cloth.

  4. Blot the face with a tissue. Apply a thin layer of the Essential Mask or Oxygen Face Cream avoiding the eye area; DO NOT MASSAGE IN BUT LEAVE TO SELF-PENETRATE. Apply a thicker layer on very congested areas. Leave for approximately 15 minutes.

  5. After 15 minutes you are ready to begin extraction. Looking at the face, divide it up into 3 bands: One across the forehead, one across the nose and cheeks and one across the jaw and chin. Look closely at these 3 bands and decide which band has the most congestion and so needs the most extraction and which is next and finally the area with least work to do. Starting with the LEAST congested area, remove any traces of Mask on the skin in this section only, leaving it on the other 2 bands only. Study the area. Decide where you want to work and work in good light. Leaving the oxygen on the skin for the 15 minutes should have brought most of the most obvious blockages to the skins surface.

The key to extraction is not to put too much pressure on the delicate skins tissues and also not to use the top of the fingers but instead work only with the balls of the finger tops and work in a rolling action

Extraction itself

  1. Practice your technique at first. Perfect the rolling action. You should apply the balls of the index fingers flat onto the skin and then roll in towards the blockage, applying just a very light pressure. When you feel ready move onto real extraction on the face. Wrap the index fingers in a double ply tissue which acts to cushion the skin.

  2. Work by moving around the blockage so that the pressure, though light, is not concentrated on one direction alone. You need to come at the blockage from all angles if the blockage is still trapped when you have worked around it in one circle study it again. Is it raised out of the skin but just won’t lift out fully? If so you can now try the rocking action: Please the balls of the index fingers flat on the skin either side of the blockage and with light pressure again rock the fingers in alternate directions up and down side by side so the pressure is concentrated over the blockage. This should result in the freeing of the problem and so you can wipe away and out of the skin. If however the blockage is still deeply buried in the skin after one full rotation around it, leave it until next time. Apply a small dab of Karin Herzog's brilliant spot zapper: Vita-A-Kombi 3, and leave to self penetrate. Regular application of the Oxygen Face cream on a daily basis will help to draw it nearer to the surface each time so when you next extract it will come out. CONTINUE TO EXTRACT ALL BLOCKAGES IN THIS AREA

  3. When extracting you should never press so hard that clear fluid draws from the skin, you must stop squeezing if this happens. You should also immediately apply a small dab of Herzog's Vita-A-Kombi 3.

  4. After extracting all blocked pores and blackheads from the first area, its time to move to your next preferred area to work on. Remember to leave the most congested band to last.

  5. Continue until all bands have been worked in the same way and you have extracted the easiest blockages.

You now need to seal the skin and help eliminate the risk of swelling and scar tissue

  1. Apply a small layer of Oxygen Face Cream or any of your recommended Herzog oxygen facial creams from the Vita-A-Kombi range, to the whole area. (Remember Vita-A-Kombi 3 is a spot zapper and so should not be applied in blanket cover all over the face.) With this application of oxygen to the skin you can massage it into the tissues, as this is the second application of Oxygen to the skin during this treatment.

N.B. Remember to never apply too much pressure during extraction. If blockages are stubborn, they will be easier next time.

These home facial notes are designed to give you a taste of what a professional Karin Herzog facial can do. If carried out correctly it will give results but it is not intended as a replacement for a professional Herzog Oxygen Facial in any of our salons where the treatments are carried out within strict professional guidelines and where we recommend you visit if you have any real skincare concerns. Our salon partners offer a treatment, called the Bodicial, which lasts 2 hours and has body Lymphatic drainage as part of the treatment.

We can accept no responsibility for any client who has been a little over zealous with the extraction. If in doubt, call our hotline - 01299 269211. A qualified therapist should always treat serious problems or cases of persistent acne. Your skin is delicate and when treated gently and with respect will reward you by looking its best.
